RCA LIBRARY PROJECT: PHASE TWO
Thanks to many generous contributors in the USA, RCA has collected a
library of American textbooks on several topics. The topics include:
- Principles of communication
- Public speaking
- Interpersonal communication
- Intercultural communication
- Organizational communication
As well as a variety of other communication related books and materials.
In order to capture information that will help Russian scholars write
texts, and to generally increase the understanding of effective
communication in cultural contests, we ask the users of books from the
RCA library to respond to the following questions. If you used the
texts in research, rather than teaching, please describe the research
and how you used the materials, and answer the questions below as
appropriate, otherwise, the questions apply to use of the texts in
teaching.
The names of the responders will not be released in any way, the
responses will be grouped so that no individual or institution will be
recognized. Since the books are in English, and the compiler of the
survey speaks English, please write comments in English. Do not worry
about the grammar or writing style, as the material will be compiled.
Please submit your report to Nancy Jackson at Clemson University, or
direct any questions or concerns to: Nancyj@clemson.edu. The books
are located at the Institute for Business, Management and Law in Rostov-
on-don, and may be obtained by writing to Irina Rozina or Vicktor
Shakovsky at : rozina@iubip.ru or shakhov@vspu.ru
The results of the surveys will be combined into a report that will be
available to all members of RCA. Thank you for your participation.
- What text did you use?
- What was the title of the course? What was the major focus of the
course? (attach a syllabus, if possible)
- Did you teach the course in English or Russian? (or another
language?)
- What is your academic background?
- How many students, and how often did you meet?
- What parts of the book did you use? Did you supplement the book
with other texts? What were they?
- Please write in detail what aspects of the text you used, and how
you used them.
- Please write what you used that was effective, and in what way you
think the material was appropriate to a Russian context.
- Please write in detail what you used that did not work, and please
say why you think it did not work.
- Was there anything you did not understand, or that you skipped
because it was inappropriate or unintelligible? Describe, please.
- Please write what was missing from the text, or should be added for
the text to be useful to you and your students.
- Please write any additional thoughts or comments you have that
would be useful to others using the text.
Thank you,
Nancy Jackson,
