Subject: Re: RCA Involvement in WCA Stockholm Conference

Dear Olga,
I am writing to discuss with you whether there is a way that RCA
might be involved in the World Communication Association 17th Biennial
Conference which will be held at Haninge, Stockholm, Sweden July 20-
24, 2003.
I certainly understand the difficulty of Russian members of RCA
being able to afford the travel to Stockholm.
However, I do know that Professor Steven Beebe and well as Professor
Nancy Jackson will be presenters at the WCA conference. Professor
Beebe paper is entitled, "Making Global Lins with Russian
Communication Educators: The Status of Establishing Networks Between
Russian and US Communication Instructors and Researchers."
When our conference was held in Santander, Spain in 2001, we
organized a roundtable discussion among leaders of international
communication associations. The roundtable opened with brief, 3-
minute statements about each organization from each leader. Then we
addressed questions of common interest. It was a lively discussion
enjoyed by both the leaders and the individuals in the audience.
In Stockholm this year, I've been asked to arrange for another
roundtable discussion. This year, I would like to invite leaders of
national, as well as international, organizations. It would be
wonderful if Russia could be represented in the discussions. I am
wondering if you could name an individual to represent RCA? I share
Steve and Nancy's names only because I know they will be present at
WCA. You are surely welcome to offer another suggestion.
The roundtable will take place on Wednesday, July 23 from 10:30 to
11:45 am at the Hotel Winn in Haninge. As was true in 2001, all
conference fees will be waived for leaders who attend only this
session and do not wish or are unable to fully participate in the
conference.
I look forward to your thinking regarding giving RCA a presence at
this roundtable discussion.
With warmest personal regards,
Sharon Ratliffe
