We live in the epoch when society needs the specialists whom we can call "masters of language". They can communicate in foreign languages, use information from foreign magazines, make reports and participate in international congresses, conferences, and meetings. Such specialists are more adapted to modern market. However, not all Russian specialists in foreign languages meet these requirements.

What is it necessary to prepare a specialist in the most effective way?

The process of preparing a specialist will be effective if we, teachers, consider the following:

  • Communication approach in teaching process.
  • Involvement both into educational and professional activities.
  • Cultural peculiarities of the country which language he/she studies.
  • Labor market needs.
  • Scientific progress.
  • Changes in society and the world.

Democratic ideas of our society can't be realized without democratic concept of education which implies orientation towards training a free, creative individual. Universities should offer such educational services which could help their graduates find well-paid, prestigious jobs, feel satisfied with their professional activities, be flexible in the changing world.

To prepare such specialists our Faculty of foreign languages offers its students a wide range of foreign languages (English, French, German, Spanish, Korean, Arabic, Italian), computer-oriented teaching, additional language courses including preparation for international exams, native speakers' participation in teaching, students' internships in translation agencies, schools and colleges. Specialization of our students is closely connected with the Russian labor market needs, for example, "Business translation", "Tutoring in remote education" and others. The curriculum of future translators includes such a subject as "Methods of foreign language teaching"; as for future teachers of foreign languages they study "Basics of translation theory and practice". This approach makes our graduates more flexible professionally. Wide extracurricular activity at the faculty (language clubs, celebration of festivals of different countries, meetings with employees of foreign embassies, translation contests, etc.) contributes much to effective preparation of specialists in foreign languages.
